If you are doing a Job Search for a situation with the US Coastguard
service, don’t expect a ‘Baywatch’ where bronzed
gods and goddesses rush about playing superheroes in slow motion.
While not as glamorous as Baywatch, the Coastguard does however
have a lot of very interesting job opportunities for young people.
Your Job Search will show that its original functions of enforcing
tariff and trade laws has broadened to include prevention of smuggling,
protection of the coastline, enforcing maritime laws, aiding vessels
in distress protection of the environment and life saving.
Prior Service with any of the five military services counts when
you are seeking a position with the navy reserve. Since veterans
with Prior Service are valued by the navy reserve, they do not
have to undergo basic training again and can directly enroll in
to the reserve. You may even reenlist at the same rank and rating
as you held before. Benefits include retirement programs, educational
assistance, home-loan guarantee program, Navy exchange and commissary
privileges, low-cost insurance options, travel opportunities,
leadership training.
The Navy exchange and the Coastguard exchange do not have to
follow Military Pay scales, since they largely employ civilian
personnel.
Military Pay for Airforce personnel depends on the rank or pay
grade of each individual. Duration and length of service, marital
status, and location are also determining factors for pay. While
annual salary includes pay, average housing allowance, monetary
food allowance, and the tax advantage of untaxed allowances, several
special allowances get paid to Airforce persons in particular,
such as flight pay for pilots, navigators etc who have flying
status, combat pay etc. The military pays personnel a clothing
allowance for the replacement and maintenance of uniforms, a family
separation allowance for when a member is required to stay away
from his family for over 30 days on military orders, sea pay,
submarine duty pay, enlistment and reenlistment bonuses, etc.
